Amphora's History
Possibly the first fully electronic lab notebook
In 1996, Simon Coles of New Information Paradigms Ltd. (NIP) began a consulting engagement with Kodak to create a Lotus Notes-based Electronic Lab Notebook for use by Kodak's scientists around the world. This work generated a lot of interest at conferences, in the press, and elsewhere, and in October 2001 Amphora Research Systems Ltd. was created as a subsidiary of NIP. Amphora went on to make further sales of the Lotus Notes ELN to companies such as DuPont.
During this time, it was apparent that Amphora needed a "Next Generation" ELN based on more industry-standard technologies. The opportunity was there to build on Amphora's experience of some of the largest ELN installations in the world, and the challenge was to protect the investment Amphora's existing customers had made in the Lotus Notes ELN. This work developed into Amphora's industry-leading OpenELN architecture, which is based on XML, J2EE, SQL, and a variety of Windows technologies.
A focus on Patent Protection and Long Term Record Storage
In February 2003, Amphora became an independent company. Amphora is now one of the world's major suppliers of Electronic Lab Notebooks and associated record keeping systems for patent purposes.
Amphora's particular strength and focus is to help organizations create experimental records that will stand the test of time - and the rigours of the court room.
In July 2007, Amphora's growth and market leadership was acknowledged by the independent consulting and analyst firm Frost & Sullivan who awarded Amphora their "Market Penetration Leadership Award".
